Physiology of vision

Physiology is the study of animal (including human) function and can be investigated at the level of cells, tissues, organ systems and the whole body. The underlying goal is to explain the fundamental mechanisms that operate in a living organism and how they interact.

The sense of vision involves the eye and the series of lenses of which it is composed, the retina, the optic nerve, optic chiasm, the optic tract, the lateral geniculate nuclei in the thalamus and the geniculocalcarine tract that projects to the occipital cortex.
